Visual design and direction for a casual Japanese restaurant.
For this project, I was tasked with enhancing the ambiance of a local Japanese restaurant specializing in sushi, ramen, and alcoholic beverages. Over the span of several months, I was able to deliver a chic and unique atmosphere simultaneously fitting of both a family restaurant and a Japanese-style pub.
Core Responsibilities
-
Designing a menu that conveys an updated modern brand image for the business
-
Taking photos of menu items and preparing them for upload on the restaurant’s main webpage, as well as inclusion on the print menu
-
Designing visually interesting images that will capture interest and improve the overall ambiance of the business’s interior
-
Painting the finalized mural designs on the walls of the business within the time frame given, with focus on neatness and professional quality

New Vibe, New Me!
My clients desired a more modern, yet welcoming atmosphere at Akaya and I decided to achieve the desired upgrade by giving the space more character with the addition of several wall murals and atmospheric lighting.
Pictured below are images of the improved ambiance of the space and how the murals were able to liven up the overall atmosphere.
A Closer Look
New Menu Book
Main Menu
Digital files for the primary menu book displaying Akaya’s full menu, excluding lunch special items.
Empty space on the back cover of the menu book was quickly filled with a list of descriptions for roll items in the menu upon request of the client.
Lunch Menu
As per client request, I created a separate, single-page menu displaying Akaya’s lunch specials, utilizing leftover space on the back of the menu to create an additional vegetarian menu.
